Netflix is one of the most popular streaming platforms out there. Although other competitors such as HBO or Amazon Prime are becoming more and more known, today it is still the pioneer of streaming video and a platform with a catalog that does not stop growing.

That’s why today I want to teach you how to make the most of this popular service by a Chromecast, one of the ” dongles” (if not the most), most popular in the world and allow us to send photos from mobile to the TV and other types of content.
Before we start, we must remember that if you have a television with the Netflix application already installed (Smart TV) you will not need to use a Chromecast.
And if you use one, you must have updated the device from which you are going to stream, both concerning the operating system and the streaming method you are going to use (we will detail it later).
Multiple ways to watch Netflix with a Chromecast
With the official app for Smart TV
One of the best ways to enjoy Netflix on television is through its official application for Smart TV. It is available for some smart TV models from Samsung, Panasonic, Philips, Sharp, Toshiba, Sony, Vizio, Sanyo, Hisense, and LG.
There are many TV models with compatibility for Netflix, although Netflix itself highlights some of them with the distinction of Recommended TVs for Netflix based on concepts such as how long it takes to open the application or if the interface is in high resolution.
It is not necessary that your television is among them, but that it has a SmartTV platform of the previous brands, moderately updated. If in doubt, check the specifications of your TV.
In each television, the process may vary slightly, but it is in all cases similar. If the Netflix application is not installed at the factory, you must find it and install it from the store, on the same TV.
When you open it, you will be asked for the username and password of your Netflix account, and from that moment you will be able to access all the content, controlling the playback from the remote control.
With an HDMI cable
If all of the above fails, you will always have the option of connecting a computer directly to the TV using an HDMI cable like the previous one.
The HDMI connection has the main advantage that it transmits audio and video, without the need for any configuration or process: connect one end to your computer to your PC and the other to your TV, and you will see the PC screen on the TV.
To watch Netflix on your TV with a Chromecast you don’t necessarily need to have the app installed on your Android or iOS smartphone or tablet since Google is in everything and allows us to stream from the Netflix website itself as long as we use its Chrome browser.
To send the Netflix video from a mobile, tablet, or computer using the website, we must follow these steps:
- Connect your Chrome to the TV using the HDMI and USB connectors (the latter is responsible for providing power to the device)
- Open the Netflix website in the Chrome browser (updated) of your smartphone, tablet, or computer.
3. Press the drop-down button on the top right, click where it says send content and select your Chromecast device.
With a Game Console
Don’t have a SmartTV or any other device like Chromecast, FireTV, or Apple TV? And a console? Most of the latest generation consoles include their own Netflix app. In the case of PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, and Wii. It is expected to arrive soon also on the Nintendo Switch.
Generally, the first thing you will need is to download the Netflix application from the console store. Open the application, login with your user account and you are all set to watch Netflix on the TV thanks to your console.
With Amazon Fire Stick and TV Boxes
All Chromecast does is broadcast the video it receives to your TV, but other alternatives such as Amazon Fire Stick, Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, and the like go a step further, including support for applications. These alternatives do not require another device to function and send content.
These devices connect to the TV, usually via an HDMI cable, and are connected to the Internet. They have their remote control and their application store, where you will have to search and download the official Netflix application for the system.
Once you have the official application, all you have to do is log in and you can start enjoying Netflix content in a way very similar to what you would with a Smart TV, and with greater control than through the Chromecast. thanks to his command.
Using the Netflix App
Netflix has an application for Android and iOS devices, and we can even download a version for Windows 10 from the application store. This application must be updated, being able to do it from Google Play on Android phones or tablets and the App Store in the case of Apple devices.
To watch Netflix with a Chromecast using the application, we just have to follow these steps:
- Have the Chrome connected as we indicated in above points.
- Go to the streaming button of the Netflix app located in the upper right corner of it. This button may be in a different place depending on the device used and the version that we use, but it always has the same shape indicated in the photograph that we show you below. It is also available during playback.
- From that moment on we will be able to see a control bar in the notification curtain of our smartphone or tablet that will allow us to control the video playback, being able to even block access to the playback of the other devices that are connected to the same WiFi network, since our Chromecast will appear as available for all devices connected to the same network.
With all the methods above we still suggest you to hold some good devices for the casting process, as a better device will lead you to a better experience with your visual stuffs.
Some technical details about Netflix streaming
If you are wondering at what quality Netflix can be seen with a Chromecast on television, everything will depend on your network connection and the Chromecast that we are using.
Chromecast will play Netflix movies and series in Full-HD on compatible titles and as long as the network speed is at least 5 megabits per second.
Happy streaming folks!
