Best GBA Games
Final Fantasy Adventure
Probably one of the best games out there. Don’t compare it to The Legend of Zelda , because the two titles ultimately have little in common. Final Fantasy Adventure bears this name because it is indeed a spin-off of the Square series .
Released in Japan as Seiken Densetsu Final Fantasy Gaiden and in Europe as Mystic Quest , this Action RPG is long, addicting, and incredibly excellent.
Very easy to learn, we travel in this incredible world with a basic plot, certainly, but sufficiently developed to please us. For the record, this is the first game in the “Mana” series,Secret of Mana being its sequel.
Pokémon Red / Blue / Yellow
How to talk about the Game Boy without talking about Pokémon ? Impossible.
As the handheld console faltered in the second half of the 90s, Satoshi Tajiri pulled his concept out of his drawer and presented it to Nintendo almost without conviction.
23 years later, it’s a global success. We tell you more in our article dedicated to this anniversary that we celebrated last February. But let’s agree, Pokémon Red is better than the other two!
Super Mario Land
A launch game in all territories, Super Mario Land is very different from its counterpart on NES .
For good reason, it’s a completely different team that developed it for a new medium.
The result is astonishing with a long-term adventure difficult enough to satisfy the amateurs of challenge.
What game better represents the Game Boy and its success than Tetris?
It is to Henk Rogers , Dutch entrepreneur and founder of Bullet-Proof Software ( BPS ) and incidentally one of the pioneers of the JRPG with The Black Onyx , that we owe the presence of the Russian game on the Japanese console.
He went to negotiate the rights directly in Russia, stealing them from the nose and the beard of SEGA and Atari . Success is not long in coming.
It becomes the first game of many owners of the machine, yours truly included, and above all the most sold with 30.26 million units sold .
VKirby's Dream Land
We often forget it, but the little pink ball Kirby started her career on Game Boy ! Yes, Kirby’s Dream Land is the first game of the all-round hero who swallows his enemies.
It is logically less advanced than the NES version . For example, we can not yet copy the abilities of swallowed enemies but it does not matter as the game and its soundtrack are excellent.
For the record, Kirby is the creation of Masahiro Sakurai , the creator of Super Smash Bros.
Note also that the game was programmed by the late Satoru Iwata who will become the president of Nintendo and will be at the origin of theWii and Nintendo DS .
The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening
We have already told you about it at length, wide and across , but let’s give it a layer for the shape and for the anniversary of his platform.
The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening is the best of the series. Tailor-made for the laptop, the adventure unfolds outside of Hyrule for the best… and only for the best! Graphically impeccable, with an epic soundtrack, Link’s Awakening is also very varied.
We can not wait to learn more about the remake that arrives this year on Nintendo Switch .
Metroid II Return of Samus
After the NES , Samus’ adventures continue on Game Boy .
Irreproachable from every point of view, Metroid II is still very difficult and unforgivable. Fortunately, there are save points scattered here and there, so you don’t have to start all over again.
For once, Capcom developers put you in the shoes of an antagonist! And not just any since it is Red Arremer or the terrible red gargoyle of Ghosts & Goblins .
In this RPG adventure, we go through levels each more twisted than the next but, as they say, the game is well worth the effort.
Technical feat above all, X is the work of none other than Dylan Cuthbert , the creator of StarFox .
Its title Game Boy , unheard of in the West, a shame since it was developed by a Westerner, manages to display a 3D, admittedly rudimentary, in an addicting and epic tank game.
Street Fighter II
Difficult to port the legendary Street Fighter II on a portable console much less powerful than the original arcade support.
And yet, the developers of Capcom did it in 1995 ! By the way, they mixed up several inspirations.
If the cast is that of Street Fighter II (minus 3 characters), some special moves come straight from SF II Turbo while the power of normal moves depends on how long you keep the button pressed, as in Street Fighter first of the name .
Metal Slug Advance
SNK Playmore’s most popular shooter has finally made its way onto the GameBoy Advance.
Metal Slug Advance is the only Metal Slug title available for the GBA. It is one of the best action games available on the platform.
You can play as completely new heroes and traverse enemy territory by vehicle or on foot. There are countless weapons and vehicles to choose from, and the gameplay is fast paced and thrilling.
If you’ve never played a Metal Slug title before, this is a great place to get you started with the game.
The original Contra game redefined the side-scrolling shoot’em up genre in the gaming world.
The incredible Contra Mantra continued on the GBA with the release of Contra Advance: The Alien Wars EX. In this game, your soldier faces off against aliens and mecha robots.
You have to shoot anything that moves to prevent your world from being invaded by alien forces and evil robots. Full throttle action; just make sure you never let go of the shoot button.
